How Do I Configure My Router to Use the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi Band?
To connect your device successfully, you may need to configure your router to use the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band.
1. Log in to your router's management page.
- On a computer connected to your home network, open a web browser and enter the router's management address in the address bar. This information is usually printed on the label on the back or bottom of the router (for example, 192.168.1.1 or tplogin.cn).
- Some router brands also provide a dedicated mobile app that can be downloaded by scanning the QR code on the router for easier management.
2. Sign in with the administrator account.
- Enter the administrator password. This is usually printed on the router's label. The default password is often admin or the same as the Wi-Fi password, depending on the router model.
3. Disable the dual-band steering feature.
- Go to Wireless Settings and turn off Smart Connect, Dual-Band Steering, Wi-Fi Band Steering, or a similar option that combines the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks.
- Once disabled, the router will broadcast separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks.
4. Disable the 5 GHz Wi-Fi network (if required).
- Turn off the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band so that only the 2.4 GHz network remains available.
5. Save the settings.
- Click Save or Apply to confirm the changes.
- Your router may restart for the new settings to take effect.
Note: The menu names and configuration steps may vary depending on your router's brand and model, but the overall process is generally the same.
